If you live in Colorado and are tuned into the climbing/photography world, you no doubt heard about todays tragic death of 18 year old high school valedictorian Kevin Hayne, who fell to his death while attempting to summit Little Bear Peak in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Kevin was just 18 but had already summited over 30 of Colorado's 54 fourteeners and was hoping to conquer them all before starting college at the end of the summer. I did not know Kevin, but news like this definitely hits home for anyone who shares a passion for the outdoors. A helicopter crashed while attempting the rescue, but thankfully it was able to make a hard landing in a meadow and no one on board was injured.

I checked out Kevin's website [link] and he has some amazing photos of his many summits here in Colorado. I urge you all to take a look, I'm not sure how else to honor a person I've never met other than appreciating his art and passion that he wanted to share with the world.  Sad to lose someone so young, but he definitely packed a lot of life into his short time with us.

Here is a news article if you're interested. [link]

Anyways... there are always lessons to be learned in these tragedies. Hopefully this will remind everyone to be as safe as possible out there while exploring this amazing world.

That's awful. The way He talked, he sounded like He was a Christian. That would the most comforting thing for me is knowing he was saved.
I guess you take that chance when it comes to climbing, or anything like that.

why does that even have to be relevant? why can't you just honor someone's memory, why must you bring some petty religion into it?

I am honoring his memory. But it's not religion. Christianity is a relationship with God-something much deeper than man-made religion.
Even in the video He talked about God. If we can assume he was a Christian, you're not only being rude to me, but also to him.

That's a real bad deal. Man it is sad to see people who make something of free time and life and this ends up happening to them.

Sad that it was someone so young. I know that Little Bear is one gnarly climb, an extremely exposed semi technical at the easiest absolutely nothing to take lightly.

I remember a few years ago they had finally retrieved the body of a man who went missing for about 10 years who attempted it.
