Lately it seems like the subject of every other journal that pops up in my message center is whining about what's wrong with this website. To me, this site is a great blend of art and community. Yeah, sure, there are trolls and annoying things that go on here, but this site has millions of members from all over the world who all have their own opinions on what art is. It's the internet... everyones a tough guy online, thats just the way it is. When I browse forums on other websites (not just art sites) it's fairly obvious that people are much braver when hiding behind the cloak of the internet. There's a pretty simple way to deal with the annoying parts of the internet.... IGNORE IT! Writing 1,000 journals over and over telling everyone how fed up you are with this site just adds fuel to an un-neccesary fire. Most of them talk about how this site "used to be about art"... turns out those types of journals aren't about art either. Why not spend your energy perfecting your craft instead of wasting it on negative journals that just make you look silly. If you don't like it here you should save yourself the headache and just leave. This website is a business. The powers that be call the shots. That's their right as the owners of the company. I for one am in awe of how fast this site has grown in the 5 years since I've been here. This was the first place where I started to get real feedback from people about my work when I was just starting. I have made connections with so many people I couldn't even count. That is why I'm here. To share my art and get inspired by others. This is a platform for sharing work and getting it noticed. Yes, there are llama badges and other elements of this site that aren't 100% professional, but this is a community art site for artists. If you are serious about your art, whatever it may be, you should have your own personal website you are sending people to. It isn't DeviantArt's job to make a professional looking site for you to show clients (even though they've done that for you.) I almost never write journals like this because I like to keep it positive, but good lord, lately, the only thing that's annoying me about this site is people complaining about how much they hate it. It's perfectly fine for people to voice their opinions... I recently wrote a journal wondering why this site uses a green background instead of something more neutral that is suited to showing art. To keep bitching over and over and over though, is just annoying. If the green background annoyed me so badly that I couldn't stand to be here, I would leave the site. It doesn't though... it's a minor detail that doesn't bother me because I have my website background designed exactly how I want it because THAT is my site, NOT this one.
Anyways.... enough of my rant. Go make art.. go inspire someone!

I must admit that dealing with admins on issues regarding art theft and other violations can be stressful, but the art community isn't bad at all, unless of course you have no one on your watch list but 13 year olds, haha.
