The Great Sand Dunes nestled up against the 14,000 foot. peaks of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains at sunset.

I tried to make it up into the dune field for sunset but about halfway up the winds picked up and just about sandblasted my face off. I then made a quick change of plans and hustled to this spot for sunset.

This is a great picture. Makes me kind of glad that you didn't get up the dune and miss this shot. The sand dunes here are one of America's great secrets I think. It's always been quiet and peaceful when we went. My kids used to snow board down the dunes.

Love the variation in texture between the dunes, mountains, and clouds.
I'll be going with the CU photo club to the Sand Dunes in mid April. I can't wait but at the same time I'm rather worried about how the sand will treat my camera...
