the reason it looks like that is because there was a small bank of clouds just above the horizon line at sunset.. so the sun goes behind that and then when the bottom starts to come back out from under the cloud it lights the mountain from the bottom up.

I really do like the way the mountains seem illuminated more brightly at their base than at their peaks - maybe you could tell us what's causing that?

It's an absolutely beautiful shot, but as I look at it, it just doesn't seem to mean much to me, my apologies for saying so. Though I think perhaps, in saying that you don't have the right shot for this location yet, that perhaps you feel something similar.

well the peaks dont have light on the top of them because the sun was moving up the valley and never illuminated the top of the mountains.. im not sure what you mean by it doesnt mean anything to you... i say i havent got the right shot of this place yet because of the lighting conditions.. i wouldve liked some more clouds

For me, working with manipulations and digital art, I always have to start with a concept in order to create something beautiful - there's always an event or an idea that I'm trying to express; for a photographer, capturing instants in time, the process of creating it is different, but I like having that sense of meaning in an image, the sense that there's a story to be told, even if it's a simple one.

Maybe I'm unusual in appreciating that aspect of art, even in photography. It's a beautiful landscape, and I love the lighting, even if I don't understand it - in a valley, the peaks of mountains are usually the last part to be illuminated, as the sun sets behind the opposite side of the valley. However it happened, it is beautiful, I just can't get anything out of it . . . if that makes any sense at all.

Awesome job Nate! Very very nice.

That's some fast water ain't it? Only half a second, and it looks really blurred. Damn.

I really like this one because the color of the mountains and the sky, if the river were a bit brighter though, you'd have a nice white trail leading right to the pink mountains in the blue sky :D

I'd like to see an HDR of this (knowing that water doesn't like to be exposured and tends to get foggy, which is still great) The brightness is perfect in the very background but in the front it's a bit dark ;)
