Forest for the Trees by Nate-Zeman Forest for the Trees by Nate-Zeman

It's early October in Yellowstone National Park. My focus was on a beautiful black bear and her two cubs. We spotted her every sunrise and sunset for three days. However, we experienced the rule of wildlife photography and not the exception, meaning the bears didn't cooperate, and never came close enough for useable images. I became very familiar with this mountainside over the course of those days. One of the first things I noticed while waiting out the elusive bears, was this beautiful row of aspen trees, growing on the edge of a dark pine forest. On the last day of my trip these trees were almost glowing with their vibrant shades of orange. I never did get the shot of the bears that I was looking for, but this image was a great consolation prize, reminding me that out in nature, when things aren't going your way, you must remember to see the forest for the trees.

You can't always get what you wan't all the time. But this makes up for that, and perhaps soon you could return to the park where the bear are.
Wonderful colours, no wonder you wanted to shoot them.

I really love the amazing colors of it. Just one improvement maybe: I know you probably cropped it because i read your description, but i feel like there should be more of an image. Otherwise gorgeous, gorgeous shot

Wow, I really love the gnarly branches C:
Now I know for sure what an "Aspen" is. I always just used to refer to these trees as "zebra trees" LoL.
Sorry you did not get your bear picture, but at least you got to watch them for a while

Nice colors but the strong vertical lines seem to contradict the postcard format.

hmm.. most tree shots like this are done in panoramic format. That's the way I feel they look best. But, everyones taste is different. Thanks for the input!

I'm quite jealous you have such beautiful foliage out west! Rain and damp weather here have made for a very dull autumn color-wise, here in Pennsylvania. :( However, I'm quite glad you did capture this, what a lovely shot.

Lately, I've been kind of obsessing on woodcut prints of autumn trees, which I make starting with photos. (I don't have any up yet.) This one would be just about perfect: It's really just black, white and an orange-yellow fade. The details would be a pain, but that's what makes it interesting, right?

This is horrible, you couldn't even get a black bear photo in Yellowstone. Half of the trees don't even have leaves! Terrible I say.

In all reality we all know this shot is nothing short of amazing. It's always amazing to see a photo you didn't really plan on shooting and get a shot that becomes one of your favorites. Very nice.
