On an extremely foggy morning, long before the sun is due to come up, this tiny owl is out of its burrow and on the lookout for prey. The fog enshrouding the prairie gave the whole scene an un-earthly feel. With all the subdued landscape around me, the piercing yellow eyes of the little predator were all the more impressive.

Burrowing Owl - (Athene cunicularia) - Pawnee Grasslands - Colorado

Piercing eyes is right, I'm amazed it's looking for food in such foggy weather with such little light! This may seem like an odd question, but there is something in the lower left corner of the picture, in the grass. I can't figure out what it is :0 It almost looks like it has the pattern of a snake

Seeing this small, I though, "whatever".
I guess you're used to see birds so big they fill the Pictures.
I now see how wrong I was: Its a most wonderful I image due to it's simplicity and mood.
The gradient from yellow to blue is so smooth, and the owl, facing you directly... Wow.
Great work. Glad I didn't miss it.

He looks so vicious... I think he might eat me, but I can't stop staring at him! :) I absolutely love the background, too! So ominous with great colors! Lovely work!

I can almost feel the magic of this moment - of seeing this owl in the fog. The cool of moisture, echoing silence, I can even feel the palpable sense of the owl's awareness of your presence. I would have been holding my breath and standing still for as long as I could. How fortunate for you to have had this moment, and thank you for sharing.

You never disappoint. And your website IS easier on the eyes. I'd like to comment and say that the eyes of the owl are extremely interesting. Well done.
