On my hike to False Kiva I found myself trying to get down the same area this Desert Bighorn ram was trying to get up. I decided to let him have the right of way.

I was really happy too see this animal. It was my first desert bighorn sighting, which is fairly rare. These magnificent animals were once feared of becoming extinct, but are now making a tentative comeback. Having adapted to a hot, dry climate, desert bighorns have smaller bodies, longer legs and lighter coats than their rocky mountain counterparts.

Bighorn sheep have made a great comeback in Nevada thanks to groups like NBU and other like-minded organizations.
