Before the salmon run starts coastal brown bears head to the sea at low tide to feed. The prize they seek are the abundance of clams buried under the sand. The bears superior sense of smell helps them easily locate these tasty morsels. They use their claws as precision tools to peel open the shell.
may i please use this for a website?? see, i'm developing a game and i would love to add your work as the iconic image for my sand bear monster (you will of course be credited appropriately for your work and i will link the image back to here)
This is a great shot. When I was in Alaska I got to photograph a few bears but I was stuck going up a river on a dingy at the time and they didn't stay out on the beach for long, kept popping there heads in and out the bushes then turning away. I think you've captured this one and all the others in your gallery really really well. There such lovely creatures when there left to be.
